I checked my mail. I got a package slip

I opened up the package

I popped the fun, giant bubblewrap that I found inside

And then I noticed. I got a book.
It looks like this

The goal is to kind of let yourself go... and just.... do.
You follow the random instructions on a page, and do the thing it tells you.
The rules are simple and kind of vague sometimes, so you can do whatever it is you please pretty much.

This has kinda been a hard thing for me. The letting go thing.
I started with the hardest one, the one that forced me to truely ruin a part of the book:

And I figured, go big or go home right?
So... I kind of kicked it since I couldn't find any string.

And that felt pretty good.
I got a couple funny looks, but what the hey... I am kinda used to that.

So this destructive activity led to another:

So as I walked along with the cousin, I hurled the book at the ground, into a grassy place, and it crumpled more, and got a few stains.

Now that I am comfortable with destruction, I think that this is going to be a really fun eye opener for me! I am going to try to do a few pages a day. And get more people involved to help me out!

Expect more pages, really soon!

And updates on the poor little books condition....

Summer Plans

I am the queen of unfinished goals.
But you know what.
I like it that way.

Then, whenever I get bored, I can go back and find an old project left unfinished, and always be occupied, and get a wide array of things done.... eventually.

I was always that kid with six books on my nightstand, each with a bookmark hanging out of someplace, and I would read some of a different one each night. Or, if I was feeling extra nerdy, a little of each.

With that in mind, I am set off today on a quest.
I am going to the bookstore (which sadly, here in the valley really only is in the mall if you want a new book, or in LC, if you want an overpriced small selection of book)

I am looking for an art book. Perhaps the "Wreck This Journal" or whatever it is. I was interested in that one, I need to open up. I am too afraid of what my own self can do!
Either something like that, or an art instruction book. I need a jumping off point. And I am going to try this summer to do something each day from it, or at least a big work a week or so.

I want to get rolling soon, so I am leaving my perch here in Starbucks.
Wish me luck :)

Soon we will be returning our MacBooks. :(

I'm sad about this, since, unless I am given one for a graduation present (doubtful :( ) I will be without a computer. Which really doesn't work for me.
The world is increasingly digital, and a lot of my life happens online or at least on a computer.
Not in the sad way either, just in the organizational way, and how I express myself, and keep everything together.

We return them on Wednesday.
IN the meantime... I am playing as much Sims, and doing as much web surfing as possible!

what a day it has been.

I tried my hand at a creepy shot, but all I got was a warm tongue :P

We got our caps and gowns today.

I decorated my cap.

Now it is time for sleep, and tomorrow I will upload more.

My prom is tonight, and I just finished fixing my dress.
I don't really believe in spending a monsterous amount of money on a dress you'll wear once, so I bought a casual(ish) dress for cheap from JC penneys:

Then, I felt like I wanted it to look a bit fancier...and I am quite tall so the dress was a bit short and I wanted it to reachthe floor. And the more I looked at it... the more I wanted changed. The neckline had a ruffle which I cut off and I took off one strap, and added lace to the front as a tie, and around the bottom.
I am super happy with the result! :

I think that the shape is more flattering, and I am proud of my work on the one strap that  I kept!

the back looks like this:

For my first attempt altering a dress I think I did pretty good :)
And I got my nails done yesterday just a french looking acrylic nail, and I painted over it with colors that match my dress ( The french remains underneath for when I get tired of the color)

Right now I need to go to work... thats why I have no makeup/hair going on here. I just wante dto show someone, since I am so excited :)

I will post a picture of the final look after tonight!

For anyone else going to Prom tonight, or soon:
HAVE FUN, be safe, and smart. And lemme see your dresses! DIY or otherwise! :)

An Update From Hawaii!

I really should be out enjoying the sun, but this massive sunburn that Jenna and I don't have isn't permitting me to!
So we are relaxing in the condo.... which is also really nice! There's a pool here, and we are dipping in every so often to sta comfortable, so our skin doesn't fall off.

But otherwise, I am having a great trip! We got snorkle gear, and the rest of the family is off testing out locations, and we've been to an awwesome beach and walked around the cute little shops in Maui.

But this is an update about what I have been doing in Art class! I would post Hawaii pictures.. but for some reason they won't upload. But the ones from Washington imported just fine. Figures. :)

Anyways. We've been doing some work with self portaits.
I am not a fan. I don't like drawing people that much in the first place, but everyone knows that doing yourself is the hardest of all!
This is what my art room looks like.
We do our painting at those tables in the back, and drawing at the tables in front.
There are posters on the wall that our crazy Swiss teacher puts up, and there are ceramics along the cabinets.

Starting up

I did a bit of painting today.
I went to the art supply store and got me some canvases since they were on sale :)
But being weird as I am I painted a picture (only a quick one. 5 or so minutes) on just a piece of black paper.

My mind is boiling over with ideas, I just have to much impatience to focus enough to do them one at a time, so I am doing other things to calm down.
Just you wait.

In Art we've also been doing self portraits.
This has made me a little uncomfortable.
I will take a picture of what I have to far in class tomorrow.

An Update

It's been a little bit since I started the blue hair thing, and at school and with my family, it's been a hit!
I've ended up bleaching more of it (with better finger protection) and now almost all of my hair is blue.
My friend who always dyes her hair was a little put out by it, but I really like it, and I don't know whether I will keep it up.
Anyways, it looks a little like this:

The last two I took today, laying in the snow.
Sooo cold, but I think they turned out nicely :)

Oh yes, I bought a new camera today, so expect more photography soon.
Right now I am a bit busy, compiling a portfolio together to send to Western's Art department tomorrow.
Cross your fingers for me :)

I have also been diving into the cooking world, that is another art form I like- culinary. Pictures of my food and recipe book as that progresses, as well as Operation Kitchen, to revive my mom's love of cooking and whatnot. She's been a little against it since we almost had to move like 3 times. It's a long story, I won't go into the details, but basically she had it all decorated with her fish and things, and then she lost interest after she had to pack it all up so it never came out, and she's dreaded cooking ever since. I want to make her kitchen a place that is easier to love. So pictures and an outline of what I am doing are soon to come!

This blog is going to be up and running soon enough.
Inspiration is everywhere, I just need to look for it more often! :)

Hair Gone Blue

Right now it is 11:18 PM and I am regretting some things.
I got the grand idea to finally use my hair dye not too long ago. Which explains why I am sitting here, awake, with my har all gross.
I am on step one of the process.... oh dear.
I will have to dye it before school tomorrow, since it needs time  to dry tonight because my hairdryer is in my mom's room.

But right now it looks like this:

And to help time go by, I will post  pictures as I go on in this process...

These are the weapons of choice for this... disaster in the making:

A packet of Quick White, a super strength powder lightener.
A bottle of Salon Care developer creme.

It just sounds scary, doesn't it?

I  put it on with gloves, and you let it sit for like 50 minutes. When the bleach dries I'm going to use a flat iron and straighten it, snce ehat helps it kill your hair even more effectviely :)

A while later

A small problem has occurred.
I have washed m y hands several times, but there is still bleach powder on them.
I hope it does not eat through my fingers :(
I need those.

Almost finished! :)

Its time for bed now
It is... going to be interesting.
I will have to get up early in the AM to finish it, and I will update this then!

That morning
OKay, I woke up at 6:30ish so that I could get this yellow-white out of my hair!
IfI do this again, I will make sure I have a whole day to work on this, and I will bleach it twice or more, so it will be more vibrant.
But right now the color is soaking on my head, so the whole thing looks dark, likee normal. But hopefully, soon, it will be awesome.

I wrote my 10 page paper for English.
Word deleted it.
I am taking a break for a moment while I throw things, and type here, angrily.

Today in Art, I started a new picture, and finished my Marilyn Monroe.
I will post pictures when I take them tomorrow.
The new picture is another shading study, this time of giraffes. Jason helped me pick it out. What a nice fella, huh?

I'm waiting for it to be closer to 3:00 so I can go to the school for a brief rehearsal for the play, and then I am going to go to the Bellis Fair mall for a bit of shopping.
What fun.

And then aparantly, I am retyping a whole paper...
But we will dodge that subject for a moment.

Today, I left at lunch, as I am starting to, lately. I went to the bookstore to get some soup and tea. (How artsy of me :P) and I got a crafting book.
But, not like a douchey grandma craft book. It's this one:

And I'm going to get a LOT of use out of it I think :)

I don't have any other updates, except to say that I'm going to start running (...walking ;P) again, and try to use the Wii Fit a few times a week, because I am a lazy girl.
But not for long :)

that's all I've got!
Until next time...

A New Semester

The last first semester of my high school career ended last week.
Now I'm in some new classes, and the countdown to graduation has begun.
I always make the best intentions to do better at the start of each semester or quarter. I plan to get my work done. Get all A's. Draw more. Write on my blog. But it all seems to kind of... fall apart.

I'm hoping that this semester will be different. I'll only really have homework in three classes.
My schedule looks like this...

1. Senior Seminar: We switch between two teachers. I have the one I like more right now, and so far it's a pretty chill section we're learning about, so I don't have homework with him.

2. English: I need to write my 10 (TEN!!!) page paper, but I am uninspired to do that right now. Even though I am researching a pretty boss author (Lewis Carroll- Alice In Wonderland) I just can't get myself to start. So that is why I am on here for now.
And I know that 10 pages isn't that bad, especially compared to college which is fast approaching. But whatever. I'm allowed to whine for now.

3. Art: I am really liking this class so far, despite it being with a crazy french-spanish-german Swede. But Senor B is pretty sweet, and I will definitely scan/photograph our projects in there, and post them up here. So far, we are working on drawing, and shading... but I will get more into that in a later post :)

4. Current World Problems: This is with the same teacher as Senior Seminar. He's really smart, and it's easy to learn in there. Right now there's a pretty small amount of homework.

5. Drama: There are only 4 people in this class. Including me. It's awesome. Tiny schools FTW!

6. Study Period: :)

7. No Class: :)

So I have time to write, right?

I am going to post tomorrow, with information about the art class, and what I'm up to!

Warming Up

Today was a chill sort of day. Really, a lazy Sunday.
I've been catching a little cold lately, so I was napping, and laying on my couch most of the day.
So you can imagine my surprise when I finally looked out the window, and saw snow DUMPING outside.
Everything as covered in a thick sheet of snow.
I really wanted to play in it.
But after another nap, and regaining some strength, it was starting to melt.

But, as a result....
We have late start tomorrow!

I'm going to use the extra time to make sure I can sleep and get rested, and take time getting ready for school.
I'm going to go into town with my camera for the first time in forever.
I haven't taken any quality photos in  SUCH a long time.
My camera is full of snapshots from parties or outings with friends, but I need to take some time behind the lens, alone so I can get some good pictures.

So, expect some of that coming your way, as well as some scans of drawings I have been working on.

I'm not doing this for you.

Whoever you are out there, this isn't for your pleasure.
I didn't stay awake at night, pondering ways to make you happy, and find me interesting.
I will update this when I feel it's right, and if you want to read along, or comment, I would love it.
But remember. This is my project.
It's for bettering my life.

Now that it's good and awkward between us...

I'm Megan!
I don't really have blue hair.
And that's Katie.
But we won't focus on her right now.... not that she isn't important.
(Because she definitely is, she's my favorite)
But this is my introduction.

I live in a small town in the Northwest, and I'm going to be graduating this year.
I turned 18 years old three days ago, and I'm not sure what to think of it yet.
Soon I'll be off to college, and I have no idea what I'm doing.
Everything is happening so fast...
But, that's why I love art! It gives you time to sit back for a while, and enjoy things.

Speaking of art...
That's what I like to do.
I love drawing, and painting, and colors, and design.
I love to read and write, and take photographs.

My friend Lindsey
(say hi to Lindsey)
Anyways, my friend Lindsey says I should go to art school next year.
I'm not so sure.
I mean, I know I would love it.
But how far would it get me?

That's part of the reason I am expressing myself on here right now.
I want to not only take advantage of art for the present, and preserve it here...
I also want to see if I can catch a glimpse of my future.
See if this is truely the path for me.
And maybe even learn something about me at the same time!

Among other things, I'll be posting pictures, scans of drawings, videos, music I like, books I'm reading, and maybe updates of what's going on with me.
As well as some excerpts from my 365 day writing project if I ever write anything worth sharing.

So these first few posts might be slow.
And wordy.
But it's preparing myself. And you if you're out there.

I will see you soon.
